Summary: Didn't sleep great again, but no obligations this morning so I slept in and went out running a little after 7:45. Mid to low 60s out--almost cold, but it felt really good. I went down Bayou and made the left on Pollack but instead of crossing over the tracks towards the Delta Pride plant, I kept going down Pollack. Nice country road, never saw a car until I was almost back. Did it as an out-and-back today, but I think I can turn it into a decent 7 or 8 mile loop. Also saw some nice looking dirt roads to explore. The only problem with running out here in the morning is that people seem to just let their dogs out to run free, since the roads are so quiet. I got detained by sets of dogs out in yards twice.

Summary: Up at 6:30, not very eager to run. I got about 5 minutes down Bayou but then had to come back to go to the bathroom. After that I headed the other way (past another set of dogs) across 82 and onto a dirt road between some fields and catfish ponds. Started feeling better once I reached halfway and turned back. Nice morning, ran by a big flock of herons.
Summary: Still feeling sick in the morning, so I took it off. So much for this being the beginning of my serious training for Memphis. That'll start next week, once I kill this cold.

Summary: Thought about running once we got home from camping, but then a few people came over to hang out. Training begins tomorrow.
Summary: up .5 mile ~5:35 ~6:05 ~6:08 ~6:03 down .75 The Gentry XC team had practice today that I could actually make it to, so I decided to kick off half-marathon training with a day on the track (the AD is not letting the team off campus so they do a lot of track work). Today they were doing 3 x 1600. They were running in two groups, so the rest was as long as the other group took to run. There was no set pace - just however fast guys ended up running. They've usually had a single timed mile every day and the fastest guy hits ~5:35, so I figured we'd do about 6 minutes. I ended up going with the second set of guys. A few got off the line fairly quick, and I just tried to settle in at the pace of the top few. They fell off a bit in the last lap, but I held the pace to run 5:35. Long, long rest - some of the guys were running over 8 minuets, and then we got going again. The top guy said he wanted to go under 6 minutes, so I took them out at 5:50 pace but they started to fall off again. I slowed up in the last lap to let one catch up, I think we were around 6:05 or 6:10. Then I waited a few minutes while other guys finished that mile. I recovered pretty quick so instead of waiting through the other group, I just decided to add on an interval and run with them. Again ran with one guy for three laps before he let up. I held the pace for just over 6 minutes. Did the same thing when I got back with the other group again. Cooled down 2 laps around the outside of the track. Hot day out, but I felt surprisingly good - didn't think these would be so easy. Then again, 6 minutes is my goal pace for the half-marathon.
Summary: I messed up my watch and all the roads were little dirt roads back on the plantation, so I didn't quite find the ones I was looking for and had to loop back a little bit. Legs weren't tight at all; just felt a little weird in my right hamstring, but I'm not too worried out. Beautiful run, especially the end through the plantation and along the Bayou. Only one set of dogs bothered me today.
Summary: Got hit by a car while trying to cross 82. Bad broken ankle... got helicoptored down to Jackson, waiting now on surgery. That may be my running career for a while. Don't want people to worry but this is a good way to disseminate that fact to everyone.
Summary: Got in for surgery in the afternoon. Took 5 hours apparently, and there were 4 breaks to repair. I stayed in the hospital overnight. What I've decided: getting hit by a car - that doesn't hurt too bad. Breaking your bones in four places - not too bad, either. But getting all that fixed up, that's where the pain is.
